Embracing Me
Human feelings are unique. Sometimes it is simple and sometimes it gets complicated. We all feel a range of emotions every day and, one of them is LOVE. Love is an emotion that co-depends on so many things like trust, understanding, compromises, care and trust. Everyone has their ways of expressing their love to their family, friends, pets and even favourite things. However, do we express love to ourselves? How much time and effort do we put in loving ourselves? If we want to love someone or something else in our lives, we should know how to accept and love ourselves first. Nevertheless, the question is, do we know how to love ourselves?
Many of us are also sceptical about being different from others. We seek acceptance and are afraid of rejection. However, we should be aware that we, humans, are not perfect. We all have flaws and have made mistakes. Thoughts like, ‘I wish I was as slim as someone or I wish I had a lighter skin colour’, are thoughts that run through many of our heads. These thoughts occur because sometimes, we want to blend in with the crowd and be someone NORMAL. It is natural for a person to wish to improve themselves and correct their shortcomings. However, all this will only be possible if we accept ourselves for who we are.
Self-acceptance and self-love start with knowing your flaws and embracing them. Once you embrace them, you can take your time to improve them one by one, at your own pace. Nonetheless, it is crucial to remember improving oneself means you should not compare yourself with another person. Comparing yourself to others is never good. Once you start comparing, there is never an end to it. The thing is, not everyone can win first place and be the best. There is no reason for doing that either. Everyone has their talents and strengths. All you have to do is be the better you every day.
The other side of self-love is appreciating your strengths and positive traits. Each one of us must be good at least one thing. You may have a talent in something that another person has no idea about, and it is something to be proud of yourself. It does not matter how big or small your strengths are. Strength is not just something you are good at, but it also makes you feel strong and confident. Therefore, value and pursue what you are good at to enhance your self-esteem and satisfaction from life. You just have to believe in yourself.
Sometimes loving and accepting oneself might not be a cup of tea for everyone. However, you can do it slowly with some simple actions. Let us start simple with waking up in the morning. Some of us are always busy getting ready for school or work in the morning. But, it would not hurt us to spend some time for some self-pampering and care. First and foremost, take some time to do some simple stretching. Open your curtains or windows and take some time to enjoy the warmth of the sunshine and fresh air. If you are going out that day, do not hesitate to put on your favourite clothes or do your favourite makeup; not for anyone but you.
In this rapidly evolving world, society has set many standards and expectations for us. However, we must stay true to ourselves and accept ourselves for who we are. If you want to love someone, you have to love yourself first. If you want to make the people around you happy, you must find your happiness first. After all, your greatest responsibility is to love yourself and to know you are enough.
